Field reference
Twenty-four butterflies, described plainly
Wingspan is given as the range across both sexes where these differ markedly. Range statements describe the native distribution and deliberately omit introduced populations unless they are well established. Conservation status follows the IUCN Red List where a global assessment exists; entries marked regional reflect a national review and are not comparable to a global listing.
How to use this reference. It is a starting point, not an identification key. Wing measurements vary within populations; range statements compress a great deal of local detail. For a determination you can rely on, consult a regional field guide and, where possible, a county or national recording scheme.
