Look closer.
Then look again.
ButtyFly is a field journal devoted to butterflies — their biology, their habitats, the people who study them, and the practical craft of watching them closely. Long-form writing for readers who would rather spend an hour in a meadow than an hour scrolling.

Six sections
Where to start
Everything in the journal falls into one of six sections. If you are new to butterflies, begin with Field Notes; if you already know what you are looking at, the ecology writing is where the interesting arguments live.
Field reference
Species under pressure
Four of the species in our reference carry a conservation listing above Least Concern. Their status, wingspan and range are summarised below; the full reference can be filtered by family and by status.
About this edition. ButtyFly is an editorial publication. The articles here are original writing produced for this journal; the species data follows standard taxonomic literature and IUCN Red List categories where a global assessment exists. Bylines are editorial roles held by the masthead, not claims about identifiable individuals. Figures marked regional reflect national rather than global assessments.
